Counselling Psychology
Counselling Psychology is concerned with promoting psychological wellbeing and effective personal and interpersonal functioning across the lifespan. It works with a broad range of emotional, relational, vocational, and health-related concerns, attending to both psychological distress and personal development. Practice is grounded in an appreciation of individual experience, neurodiversity, and cultural context, with therapeutic work shaped collaboratively around each client’s needs, goals, and circumstances. Interventions may be brief or longer term, depending on the nature of the work and the client’s preferences.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based, collaborative approach that focuses on understanding and modifying unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. In my practice, CBT is adapted for neurodivergent clients, taking into account differences in attention, processing style, emotional regulation, and sensory sensitivity. The emphasis is on developing practical, meaningful strategies that are accessible and relevant to the individual, rather than applying a standardised model. CBT can be used in both focused, goal-oriented work and more exploratory therapeutic contexts.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy designed to support the processing and integration of distressing or traumatic experiences. In working with neurodivergent clients, EMDR is adapted to ensure pacing, structure, and methods of bilateral stimulation are responsive to individual sensory profiles and processing needs. This flexible approach supports emotional processing without requiring detailed verbal recounting of events. EMDR is well researched and recognised as an effective treatment for trauma, anxiety, and phobias.
The therapy is integrative, curious and compassionate while being trauma-informed, combining approaches flexibly to suit each client’s goals and circumstances.
