EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from symptoms and emotional distress that are a result of disturbing life experiences.  Benefits that once took years of psychotherapy to make a difference, can be experienced rapidly. The meaning of painful events are transformed.

Clinicians use bilateral stimulation to help clients' activate their natural healing processes. This can be done through eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, for example tapping the back of client's hands or tactile pulsars which gently vibrate simultaneously in the hands.

The insight clients gain through EMDR result from the client’s own accelerated intellectual and emotional processes, leaving clients feeling empowered by the experiences that once distressed them.  Wounds have not just healed, they have transformed. Thoughts, feelings and behaviour all indicate emotional health and resolution—without speaking in detail or doing work at home.

There has been much research on EMDR and it is now recognised as an effective form of treatment for trauma, anxiety, phobias and other distressing experiences/memories.

Millions of people have been treated successfully over the past 25 years.
